Constitution of the European Federation for Catalysis

newbar

  • There have been formed within the countries of Europe a number of societies, and branches of national scientific societies, devoted to the study of catalysis and related subjects. Each has organised, and continues to organise, its own programme of conferences, supplemented by bilateral meetings sponsored by governments and national funding agencies.

  • In 1993, these societies founded the European Federation of Catalysis Societies as a non-profit-making organisation or charity and defined procedures whereby the affairs of the Federation were properly and lawfully conducted so that scientists and engineers throughout the continent of Europe have coordinated and rationalised their scientific activities in the field of catalysis, and simplified the forums for communication of the results of their researches in this area.

  • This Federation has not replaced or usurped the functions of the existing national societies, which have continued to organise their own activities at the national level, but instead has successfully initiated and coordinated activities having a multinational character, and in particular the biennial European Congress on Catalysis, known as EUROPACAT, the biennial School of Catalysis, and awards to recognize excellence in catalysis in Europe.
  • After extensive discussion, the members of the European Federation of Catalysis Societies (EFCATS) have recognized that EFCATS is a brand name for high-class scientific dissemination and for networking in catalysis and has successfully achieved its objectives. To further strengthen its role of promoting catalysis through Europe it is necessary to evolve its structure towards a Learned Society having personal membership and clear mandates through a direct voting system, while preserving the EFCATS brand-name, activities and structure.
  • Now this Constitution hereby establishes a European Federation for Catalysis, herein after referred to as EFCATS, as a non-profit-making organisation or charity and defines procedures whereby the affairs of the Federation may be properly and lawfully conducted.
