There have been formed within the countries of Europe a number of societies, and branches of national scientific societies, devoted to the study of catalysis and related subjects. Each has organised, and continues to organise, its own programme of conferences, supplemented by bilateral meetings sponsored by governments and national funding agencies.
In 1993, these societies founded the European Federation of Catalysis Societies as a non-profit-making organisation or charity and defined procedures whereby the affairs of the Federation were properly and lawfully conducted so that scientists and engineers throughout the continent of Europe have coordinated and rationalised their scientific activities in the field of catalysis, and simplified the forums for communication of the results of their researches in this area.
